Intentionality in life makes all the difference!  For today’s Art-Smart Minute, I talk about the importance of getting up and moving during your art time to keep your body healthy as well as your brain.  A strategy that works for me is to set the timer on my phone for 30-minute intervals.  That reminds me to get up and stretch, walk around the block, or put in a load of laundry.  Getting your blood flowing is also great for creativity!  Now let’s make a Whimsical Snail Mail Encouragement Card!

Here’s what I used:

Here’s the drill:

  1. Gesso paper and let dry thoroughly.
  2. Cover the paper with Inca Gold or any underlayer of acrylic paint.  The glimmer showed up less than I expected.
  3. Apply paint onto the clothing pattern tissue through various stencils.  You can use any colors that blend or contrasting colors if you let it dry between coats.
  4. Let the tissue dry completely.  It takes quite awhile.
  5. Paint another piece of tissue to use to cut a heart or image out.  Let dry.
  6. Glue the painted pattern tissue to the paper with matte medium.
  7. Cut out a heart and glue to card with matte medium.
  8. Using the fine tip attached to the paint, make whimsical lines around the heart.
  9. Outline card with washi tape – may need to glue down
  10. Find an encouraging phrase and put it on the heart.  You may need to glue it down with matte medium.

I didn’t have a firm plan for this card and the video is somewhat disjointed!  I was putting the washi tape on while the paint was still wet on the doodles–not a good idea!  Nevertheless, I hope you have fun with this Whimsical Snail Mail Encouragement Card!  Oops!  Gotta go – my timer is going off!  START SOMEWHERE today setting your timer to get up and move your body.  LIVE YOUNGER with simple, intentional strategies.  You can do it.  I will help you!
