Sugar Scrub by Dr. Debbie

Here’s the recipe for my world-famous Peppermint Daily Sugar Scrub.  Keep it in your shower or bath and scrub with it.  It gently exfoliates, nourishes and hydrates your skin. It’s easy to make and fun to give.   I have gifted it to many of my friends and family and, so far, everyone loves it!    You will need just a few ingredients:

  • 8 cups of Sugar:  I use an inexpensive beet sugar.  You can use more expensive organic sugar.
  • 1 tablespoons of Peppermint Oil:  I buy this from Bulk Apothecary.  Any quality essential oil will work.  You can substitute Lavender Oil if you want a relaxing scrub.
  • 2 cups of Coconut Oil: I use virgin coconut oil and buy it from Tropical Traditions.  They have lots of good sales.
  • 1 cup of Kukui Oil Blend by Alba Botanica:  This contains Kukui Oil from Hawaii which is high in essential fatty acids, as well as sweet almond, coconut, flaxseed and sunflower seed oils.  It is a luxurious oil blend even when used alone and smells fabulous.
  • Kitchen Aid Mixer or other high speed mixer:  I’ve had my Kitchen Aid for at least 15 years and it is still going strong!  This mixer is the secret to the beautiful consistency.

Put all the ingredients in the mixer, starting with the sugar.  A bag of sugar is typically 8 cups.   I start with a low speed and work up to almost the highest speed.  Whip it for 3-4 minutes.

Decant into the jars of your choice.   I typically use plastic since they will likely be in the shower.   As mentioned earlier, you can substitute other oils for the peppermint oil.  During pregnancy and while breast feeding, peppermint oil should be used sparingly.

Enjoy!  This keeps my skin soft and I no longer get that “itchy winter skin.”   If you don’t feel like making it yourself, you can order it at
